A perfect example of terracotta Victorian architecture. Libraries like this sprung up across the country, and fortunately many are now Grade I & II listed. The challenge when drawing such a detailed building, is deciding what elements to select and stylise. Here it was important that the main features such as the Birmingham Coat of Arms and the floral & animal decorations were included.
These are staple features to most Victorian buildings. The main building and roof were cut out by hand and raised. The stained glass windows are recessed, creating a subtle 3D feel and lifting the building from the page.
