Coconut Chair, 1955

Designed by George Nelson
Manufactured by Vitra

The Vitra Coconut Chair was originally designed in 1955 by American industrial designer, George Nelson.

Nelson likened the shape of his design to an eighth of a sectioned coconut, thus the name was born. The Coconut Chair stands out for its humour, clarity and minimal use of materials. The daring, sculptural shape allows a certain sense of protection, the edges wrap around you to create a comforting space to rest.
