The iconic Akari 55A Suspension light was first designed in the early 1950s by American/Japanese artist Isamu Noguchi. During Noguchi’s design process, a total of over 100 hand-made Shoji-paper models for his lighting collection were created. Noguchi chose the name ‘akari’, as this word connotes brightness and light in his native Japanese. The Akari 55A Suspension Light is created from washi paper and bamboo ribbing.

Materials: Structure in bamboo/steel wire with shoji paper shade. Includes ceiling cap and cord.
