Designed by David Irwin
Manufactured by Case

An award-winning piece of David Irwin furniture, the Narin Folding Chair was inspired by the constantly adapting nature of modern workshops.

“I set out to design a folding chair that didn’t compromise on aesthetics or comfort for it to fold,” Irwin explains, “I took inspiration from the constantly adapting nature of workshops, from the function and forms of trestles, folding A-frames and other temporary support structures.”

Crafted with a solid wood frame, this smart and robust design features a smooth sweeping transition from the turned legs into the formed backrest, which also doubles as the mount for the pivot from where the back leg rotates. The seat and back are formed from layered birch ply with a clear lacquer oak veneer and stainless steel fixings. The fixings are contained on the underside of the chair slide along the grooves within the back legs to create a graceful silhouette with clean flowing lines, which looks as good folded away for storage as it does when open and in use.

This contemporary folding chair is lightweight, easy to collapse and move around and can be stored in condensed stacks which occupy minimal space, or hung on the wall with a hook.

Winner of the Design Guild Mark Award and Wood Award for Best Production Made project in 2017, the Narin Folding Chair is an ideal seating option for dining or home office spaces.
